And on the next day, he did in fact beat everybody on track, completely without Bagleys setup, it seems. With 44 laps at this moment, he beat the last time of 02:29.126 from A. E. Gavars (Latvian Lightning Locomotives) by 3 tenths (02:28.801). He proudly proclaimed the day before, that he wouldn’t need Bagleys setup: “I’ll beat you anyway”.
He gave Bagley some credit anyway, who set the track-record the day before: “but I have 44 laps, so I need to do a lot of laps to understand the track. You can do it in 3”. How the “Timing Belt” will progress in the future stays the question, but so far, the fight is on and Nick Van Der Meijde has a very good chance to win the 3 months WSS voucher attached to the “most valid laps driven” in the series. As for the fastest time overall, Nick is also crushing it and we will see in the coming weeks, how fast he can go on other hillclimbs or if there will be competition at last.
