Race Recap – Croft Circuit

What a beautiful race we witnessed this Tuesday on Croft – Lots of overtakes, some crashes and unfortunately even ONE race deciding disconnect.

What actually worked in favor was not immediately apparent on screen: Melnichenko was stuck in traffic at the last quarter of the race, but the russian Schizocore driver told us afterwards, that he stayed behind by design. An overtake on all of the cars might’ve been risky and he himself ran on very old tires at that point. He had plenty of distance between him and the 2nd place, Blümke, who wasn’t catching up fast enough to make it to the end. Only a sudden disconnect resulted in Melnichenko losing the very safe first place he had built up until that point.

Overall, the 0 pit strategy was used by a few teams, while some teams even gambled with the compount, with negative effects: Team LGI Racing had to step out early because of a crash and the owner (Nick Van der Meijde) picking the SM tire in the hopes of gaining overall in the race. We hope for a better race for LGI Racing on the next one: Jarama!
