Andreas Bender gets his seat for the first Libre Race

As the first Race of 1947, the Grand Prix Des Frontieres get prepared for this Saturday, we got the list of drivers and what suprised us is the german driver Andreas Bender, who has only been in the Racing Seat as a hobby, rather than a real challenge.

Considerable interest surrounds the entry of German driver Andreas Bender this Saturday, who will take the wheel of a Bugatti T51A that he bought in 1936. The machine in question is not unknown to people, but a proven performer with one victory and two additional podium finishes to its credit, and it will appear in the well-remembered white and bronze colours formerly carried by Siegfried Happe.

The car passed into Bender’s hands following Feldmühle’s withdrawal from motor racing, an event that placed Happe in strained financial circumstances for several meetings. Lacking the financial means, Happe had to sell of his signature car and the sale of the 1932 Bugatti ultimately allowed Happe to settle the purchase of his Maserati 6CM outright, ensuring his continuation in the championship.

After now 15 years, the car will hopefully see the chequered flag again this Saturday on Chimay!
