The new track for the upcoming Tatuus World Series this Saturday was already inspected by a few brave drivers at todays Spark Plug. Grobnik proved to be, like always, a very good choice for open wheeler and the Tatuus felt at home on the croatian track this evening. While the Ignition saw one of the last races in the season with 3 drivers – the Spark Plug saw 11 drivers starting. While we were prepared for some bumps, what followed after the green flag was something, that we have seen in the past. the back pushed to 4 wide and the first few bumps send the car flying, collecting Trompke on the way. The same maneuver was seen on the 20th of October, when Trompke was also on the outside while the 4 wide collapsed right before T1 and send cars flying.
Imanol Salvador finished first on Wednesday, after Gavars ran into problems finishing P5. We can already see a huge discussion about the tyre compound, as the medium are running out of grip quite fast! We saw driver picking the softs for the 15 minute Spark Plug race and absolutely losing it after 3-4 laps, so this compound will probably not be picked for the race. If the hards and a “splash and run” is a viable option remains to be seen.
Springer crashes, Bagley leaves the track | Bremgarten thin in drivers but very enjoyable!
What we also saw on Sunday evening was the weekly Muffler race. This time, it was time for Bremgarten yet again, While we drove it with the E30 and with the 190E in the previous seasons, this time it was time for the Porsche Spyder to come out and give it a go. While 11 started into the race on the village track, that would get into night time, only 7 were actually able to end the race. Very unfortunate was the crash from Salinas, that lead to him cancelling his further participation in the Muffler Season 3. In an interview he revealed, that due to the track/car combo and a lack of concentration due to that, he won’t proceed to go further with the races that come up in the calendar. Salinas still has the 2nd place in the championship, but without him driving, we will actually see some change there in the future.
Springer unfortunately got into 2 big crashes in the midst of the race. The cameras didn’t get the exact moment of impact, but we saw him crawling back to the pits with heavy suspension damage. Using his long pit for that was definitely a good call for him there, as he was still net leader of the race. About 10 minutes after, he lost it again, this time losing a whole lap to the other drivers on the road. With him out of contention, Aufschneider was running first and would hold this place until the end.
Whatever happened to Jason Bagley remains a mistery, since his car was stopped beside the track. He left and wasn’t able to provide us with information as to why his car stopped working or why he left the race early.
The Podium at the end of the race read:
– Aufschneider P1
– Grazzer P2
– Lobkov P3
As we get closer to Deutschlandring this Sunday, the drivers are already hyped for the upcoming race. Springer especially challenged some drivers to a battle, because so far, he holds the 2nd place for the time in the Porsche on Deutschlandring. Only Vernole could catch Springer and without major incidents on Sunday for him, this could be a promising first win for him!
