Muffler Shop Racing at the 24 Hours of Daytona: A Milestone in Endurance Racing

The 24 Hours of Daytona by World Sim Series marked a turning point for Muffler Shop Racing. Entering with three teams across two divisions, the event was a showcase of grit, resilience, and teamwork. Despite numerous challenges, Muffler Shop Racing achieved its first-ever endurance podium, with each team’s journey adding to the drama and excitement. Here’s a closer look at their performance:

Team 1: Overcoming Challenges to Secure a historic Podium

Drivers: A. E. Gavars, O. Tomala, T. Schlebusch, V. Türker, S. B. Stattin
Car: Mercedes-AMG GT3 (2015)
Result: 3rd in GT3 Class (Division 1)

Team 1’s journey to a podium was anything but smooth. Vural Türker battled brake issues, forcing him to cut his stints short. Tyler Schlebusch’s PC problems were even more severe, sidelining him completely. These setbacks left the remaining drivers with an increased workload and added pressure.

Despite these challenges, the team’s preparation and resilience shone through. However, the strain was evident, with emotions running high during the race. O. Tomala summed up a particularly frustrating incident with, “We were killed by the Russians,” reflecting the unpredictable and intense battles they faced.

Ultimately, their perseverance was rewarded with a historic 3rd-place finish—the first-ever podium for Muffler Shop Racing. This achievement underscores the team’s potential and determination to compete at the highest levels.

Team 2: Learning Through Adversity

Drivers: M. Trompke, S. Durkac, M. Olteanu, M. Fusco, N. V. D. Meijde
Car: Mercedes-AMG GT3 (2015)
Result: 30th in GT3 Class (Division 2)

Team 2 faced a tumultuous race, marked by a series of highs and lows. Early confidence was evident, with LGI declaring before a stint, “I’m gonna do some Ayrton Senna Monaco shit.” However, his game crash shortly after led to the now-infamous outburst: “FUCK, WE ARE COOKED, I JINXED IT.”

Fatigue and on-track challenges also took their toll. M. Olteanu, after a close encounter with another car, admitted, “I mean, oopsie,” while also expressing frustration with, “I give him all the side and he goes back into my rear.” Meanwhile, Sigillus added levity to the tension with, “5 laps of fuel wee woo wee woo lgi wee woo wee woo,” as the team managed their pit strategy.

Mitch Fusco summed up the physical toll of the race with humor, stating, “My aged uncle body cannot do another stint without severe damage.” Despite finishing 30th in Division 2, Team 2 gained invaluable experience and demonstrated the camaraderie that defines endurance racing.

I knew that i had a bad set of stints leading up to the race. My stints overall were pretty good considering my pace was a bit below what I set for myself, but without major incidents i made it through my first stint. Leading up to my last, i was quite fatiqued already and the last hour was hell for me. Losing focus, missing whole turns and other problems made my times go even worse. For the next Endurance race, I will take back to back stints, to ensure I can go to the end. ~Mick Trompke

Team LMP: Battling Technical Woes in LMP3

Drivers: Y. Lobkov, S. Iordache, K. Kudlis, A. Surve, C. Potenza
Car: Duqueine D08 LMP3
Result: 13th in LMP3 Class

Team LMP entered the race with high hopes but faced persistent technical issues. Aditya Surve’s PC problems and a recurring brake pedal issue cost the team precious time and positions. Despite these setbacks, their preparation and teamwork allowed them to remain competitive.

Surve reflected on their struggles and preparation with, “The team is almost ready… we are still trying to extract those few tenths by looking at each other’s telemetry.” However, the challenges they faced ultimately left them with a 13th-place finish in class.

While not the result they hoped for, Team LMP’s performance highlighted their resilience and laid the groundwork for future improvement in endurance racing.

Conclusion: A New Chapter for Muffler Shop Racing

The 24 Hours of Daytona was a landmark event for Muffler Shop Racing, with Team 1 achieving their first-ever endurance podium. Despite the challenges faced by Team 2 and Team LMP, all three teams showcased the spirit of endurance racing: perseverance, teamwork, and passion.

This race is a testament to the growth of Muffler Shop Racing and a clear sign of their potential for even greater success in the future. As they reflect on their experiences, one thing is certain: the road ahead is bright for this determined and talented team. ONTO 12H OF IMOLA!!!
