The Oran Park Grand Prix Circuit came alive today with electrifying action from Muffler Shop Racing’s doubleheader events, the Ignition and the Spark Plug series. Fans were treated to a thrilling showcase of speed, skill, and drama as drivers in Ginetta G40 GT5 and Dallara Formula 4 cars battled it out for glory. Here’s a deep dive into the standout performances and captivating rivalries that defined the events.
The Ignition: Dominance by Melnichenko
The Ignition series saw Ivan Melnichenko of Schizocore Racing put on a clinic in the Ginetta G40 GT5 cars. Setting an awe-inspiring fastest lap of 1:13.001, Melnichenko was in a league of his own, outpacing his nearest competitor by over 1.3 seconds. His relentless pace and precision culminated in a commanding victory margin of nearly 37 seconds.
Behind Melnichenko, the battle for the spots on the podium provided its share of excitement. Kristian Mihaylov secured P2 with steady and consistent driving, capitalizing on a series of incidents and mistakes by his rival, Mikus Actiņš. Despite showing comparable pace, Actiņš’s errors relegated him to P3, allowing Mihaylov to edge ahead. This duel set the stage for an even more intense rivalry in the Spark Plug series.
The Spark Plug: Action Continues
Switching gears to the high-performance Dallara Formula 4 cars, The Spark Plug series turned up the heat. Kirill Orlovskyi claimed a decisive victory, showcasing his mastery of the circuit with a fastest lap of 1:02.872. The Muffler Shop Academy’s rising star, Wilfried Felices, took an impressive P2, solidifying his reputation as one to watch. However, the Academy’s other drivers, Lukáš Gruber and Mitchell Fusco, struggled to find their rhythm, finishing in P9 and P10, respectively. Gruber in particular has expressed his dislike for the Oran Park Circuit on multiple previous occasions.
The battle between Kristian Mihaylov and Mikus Actiņš carried on in this series, this time for fifth position. While Mihaylov displayed his trademark racecraft and composed driving, Actiņš brought improved consistency and superior pace to the table. On the penultimate lap, Actiņš executed a daring overtake on Mihaylov at the final corner, showcasing a piece of racing brilliance. He managed to defend the position on the last lap, crossing the finish line ahead of his competitor.
It was a mixed day for LAME Motorsport. Aditya Surve failed to finish the race in the Ignition series, and, in the Spark Plug, while producing the second fastest lap of the race, only two-tenths off Orlovskyi’s time, mistakes cost him a spot on the podium, leaving him in P4. Teammate Mativeri also demonstrated potential with the third fastest lap but could only manage P8, a result that belied his pace.
Looking Ahead
The daily Spark Plug and Ignition events at Oran Park proved once again why Muffler Shop Racing is a place for growth and competition for sim-racing beginners and experienced drivers alike. With rising stars, fierce battles and developing rivalries, both of these series promise even more exhilarating action in the races to come.
