The decision was already set: Gavars will win the Friendship Cup! Going into Round 8 of 9 at Bikernieki Gavars made the Grand Slam taking Pole, fastest lap (01:24:825) AND the win. On that Tuesday it was already clear – Gavars won! The big decision on this Tuesday was who will get 2nd place! The battle between Mike Van Der Burgt and Wesley Van Der Burgt was close till the end of the 9th round in Nemuno, but the chequered flag was crossed by Mike four seconds before Wesley’s green Burgt Racing livery got there in P2. Gavars was unfortunately part of a huge crash involving backmarker G. Frisa.
This is in fact the second season of the Friendship Cup that Artūrs Edvards Gavars wins with an outstanding performance, winning the Championship one race before the actual final! This performance is a marvelous advertisement for his upcoming single seater plans in the Tatuus World Series in January of 2025!
“Your second Championship of the Friendship Cup is now in your hands and the next Season will see some changes! Do you think that the new car will compliment your driving style or do you see areas, where you can improve? With your 4th place finish in the last Road-Runners Estonia 25 championship ending in November, do you feel the performance back then can be repeated for the Friendship Cup Season 4?”
“Thank you! Winning my second Championship in the Friendship Cup is an amazing feeling, and I’m looking forward to Season 4. The move to the Estonia 25 will bring some challenges, as it’s a car that suits me less than the Estonia 21, but I’m confident in my ability to adapt and improve. With L. Biberacher now competing in the Friendship Cup, the competition will definitely step up a notch. He’s a strong contender, and I’m expecting some intense battles. That said, I’ll be fully focused on maintaining my momentum and aiming for another top-tier performance in the new season.”
Some promotion for the Locomotives
The Latvian Lightning Locomotives made a good name for themself today. While A. E. Gavars missed the Spark Plug race, he was part of the “Harmonic Balancer” (finished 3rd place), the test race of the “Rear Wing” (finished 5th) and finally in the one-off race of the “Ignition” on Knutstorp, where he finished 3rd and Kudlis, his team-mate finished 4th. As a marketing ploy, this seemed to have worked, as everybody has their eyes on the Locomotives at the moment.
